GRAMMAR CRATE

he students are given 10-15 minutes in class every Monday to work on these.

There are 5 categories (punctuation, grammar, reading, vocabulary, and writing)

and the students are expected to complete one activity in each category by Friday,

May 23rd. Students are allowed to stay after school on Mondays, Wednesdays,

and Thursdays to work on them.

WEEKLY REMINDERS

There will be a final exam over all the Weekly Reminders and Words of the Week on

Friday, May 23rd. We will be reviewing all 36 Weekly Reminders and Words of the Week

over the course of the week with quizzes and then take the final exam on Friday, May 23rd.

Since this test covers everything from the beginning of the year until now please work on practicing these now until the test. You do not want to cram all the words and reminders into one night of studying.

GRAMMAR

We are working on Chapter 21 which works on practical writing skills like run-ons,

fragments, misplaced modifiers, and double negatives. We should wrap this chapter up by

the week of May 19th. There will be a test over this unit by the end of the week of May 19th.

Since one of the state standards is that 7th graders be able to identify all parts of speech, we will

spend the rest of the school year reviewing parts of speech and have a test over them by Tuesday, June 3rd.

GRAMMAR MINUTE

The week of May 12th we will be working with the skills from Chapter 21 to help prepare us for the test the following week. These exercises will be done in class.

WRITING

We are working on creating a book jacket that has a front cover, spine, and back cover with a synopsis. This is a creative and hopefully enjoyable writing activity. The rough draft with sketch is due on Wednesday, May 14th, and the final draft is due on Friday, May 16th.

DIAGRAMMING

During the week of May 26th, we will work on how to diagram subordinate clauses. There will be a quest over this format on Friday, May 30th.

DOG

We will practice proofreading and editing skills in class during the week of May 5th and part of the week of May 12th.

6+1 JUDGING

The week of May 19th, we will become ISTEP judges and be judging samples of other Indiana state students. We will work on this together and then do it independently in class on Thursday, May 22nd.
