6th Grade January News

GRAMMAR CRATE

The students are given 10-15 minutes in class every Monday to work on these.

There are 5 categories (punctuation, grammar, reading, vocabulary, and writing)

and the students are expected to complete one activity in each category by Friday,

May 23rd. Students are allowed to stay after school on Mondays, Wednesdays,

and Thursdays to work on them.

WEEKLY REMINDERS

There will be a final exam over all the Weekly Reminders and Words of the Week on

Friday, May 23rd. We will be reviewing all 36 Weekly Reminders and Words of the Week

over the course of the week with quizzes and then take the final exam on Friday, May 23rd.

Since this test covers everything from the beginning of the year until now please work on practicing these now until the test. You do not want to cram all the words and reminders into one night of studying.

GRAMMAR

We are learning the various types of nouns and pronouns and how to

use them properly in writing. There are workbook pages, a project, and a test to

accompany this unit. This unit will culminate in the last week of May or the first week of June.

GRAMMAR MINUTE

The week of May 19th we will be practicing with the pronouns in class with some quick review exercises. This should help prepare us for the upcoming test for the next week.

DIAGRAMMING

During the week of May 12th, we will be finishing our practice with direct objects. There will be a test over this format on Wednesday, May 14th.

WRITING

We have finished our fairy tales. With the remaining weeks, we will be researching bugs in order to write a research paragraph and presentation with a poem. Although this is a partnered activity, each student will write his/her own paragraph. They will be performing the poem together.

6+1JUDGING

We have been getting some responses from our business letters. They have been very positive with personal letters and coupons for free items. Hopefully, all students will receive a response by the end of summer vacation.

The final week of May, the sixth grade will be judging the writings of their peers (not Corpus Christi students). They will be ISTEP judges and be looking at other Indiana students' writing and judging them on the 6+1 Traits. They will do this together and then independently in class on Friday, May 30th.

DOG

The week of May 12th we will be editing poorly written sentences in class using proper proofreading/editing marks.
